19th Avenue

…is one crazy street.

If you live up here or been up here, you would know that this street is busy as a mug. But just as it’s busy during rush hour and on the weekends, it’s got its share of calmness. Actually scratch that. Even when you think you’re safe on the road by yourself, something crazy usually happens; like an old lady driving onto the median and taking out a lightpost or a homegirl being a G and busting the craziest u-turns haha. As a cyclist, you gotta be really brave dumb to go up 19th Ave – only because the hundreds of cars and buses don’t acknowledge your presence. Now although this street is quite extreme (my bad, my vocab has been dumbed down thanks to physics class), it’s the one street that connects us to most of our friends. We have that Park Merced, UPS, UPN, Taraval, and Ortega connection. 19th Ave has served as the only road to get to each other’s place. So much in fact, we made a song about the streets that we live on. The homie Charley ( charleysekine.blogspot.com/ ) put his skills to the ultimate test by making an award-winning music video filled with ANIMATION (mation…mation…mation…). Without further adieu, I’m honored to introduce to you a T-Style x O-Block x B-Ham joint.

Enjoy.

Modern Family

I don’t know if people my age watch ABC’s family comedy Modern Family, but it’s a HILARIOUS show to watch. Maybe because I live in a fairly big family, that I can relate myself to the show. And uh, I know a lot of people are fans of some show called Glee…well, Modern Family  won the coveted prize tonight (take that, take that, take that). Don’t get me wrong, I’m not hating on Glee but I don’t find it as appealing. Sure, the cast can sing no doubt, but as Jeff Winger ( played by Joel McHale ) in Ep.23′s “Modern Warfare” exclaims, “I can’t believe people would fall for such a ploy. Write your own songs!!”. If you can’t tell by now, I’m a fan of NBC’s Community as well. Anyways, if you haven’t watched Modern Family yet, you should start watching it.

Congratulations to the writers and cast & crew of Modern Family! You all earned it!

Saturdaze

Today’s post of Mellifluent Daze is brought to you by the letter Z.

Sesame Street nowadays is supa dupa lame compared to the Street back then. I heard Cookie Monster now goes crazy for veggies (WTF?!). I don’t think “Mmmm…veggie, veggie, veggie!” sounds as cool, but that just might be me. I’m just picturing Cookie Monster tearing up a bowl of ceasar salad with croutons and shit flying all over the set. Anyways, the letter Z is hosting this post because today was just nothing but catching Z’s. After leaving Pandora last night, we went to Carl’s, then chilled it at the girls’ house. I remember being tired as heck so I crashed on their couch. Woke up this morning at frikkin eight:30 because I was bitten by a mosquito 3 times. I would’ve slept in longer but that house is notorious for having those blood sucking leeches with wings. So I made my trek back to my place to find myself wide awake and ended up listening to 2ne1 (k-pop sheet). I now have a deep infatuation for Sandara Park (the one who usually sports a tellytubby hairstyle). I don’t know what time I knocked out at, but I woke up from sleeping on my desk. I honestly think I suffer an acute form of narcolepsy. Caught more sleep on my bed this time while I watched The Office on my laptop PC. I’m not really sure why I’m blogging about today but since when did I need to have a reason for everything I do. Right? Left.

Z ya ont he flipside la-ter!

Here’s a gist of what kinda music I dig right now:

did NOT know they spoke english! cuties for sure

Sing It. Sung It. Song.

Whatta Friday!

Started the first weekend of school off correctly. No, I did not finish my physics homework, yet. Nor did I start on it. But what I DID do was roll 10 strong to Pandora Karaoke ( 177 Eddy St.). THAT PLACE WAS OFF THE CHAINNNNN!! All the girls that worked there were really nice. And might I add pretty. Pretty cute. Our hostess, Kimmy (sp?), displayed EXCELLENT service and was super cool about it when we brought in our own beeru. Just had to pay a small fee but that was way better than getting kicked out of the joint. We reserved the Blue Moon room where all the decor was either blue, with a Blue Moon logo, or both. Pandora is stacked with high-end karaoke equipment (touchscreen song menu, updated tracks, infrared mics,) and is very accomodating. I can go on and on about the best karaoke joint I’ve ever been to but I think you should just click this link. Our homie Kevin came through after he got off work to join us in the end. He wasn’t the only one who made a special appearance – Mr. Pat Ron snuck in and decided to deliver a Superman punch straight to our my dome. Matter of fact, my head was in so much pain that I didn’t even order anything from Carl’s Jr. THAT much pain haha. I brought a camera with me to Pandora to share the room we got, but for some reason ( most likely because I tried to make a music video on the ride back home ) all the photos I took that night were deleted. So, the only photos available from last night were the 2 I took when we were parking lot pimpin’ it at the Carl’s lot. I guess it just means we gotta go again! To Pandora, that is. Eh what the heck, Carl’s too.

PEAS.PIECE.PEACE!

Big ups to the homie Mike for landing an internship at Invisible Stripes (INVS)!! He got the best of both worlds by getting his foot into business and fashion. Check out their online shop at http://store.invisiblestripes.com/ . Or even better, if you’re in the SF area stop by the shop that’s on 627 Post St. Keep on doing yo thang man!

We sang this last night. I only knew this line: “I don’t care e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e”

I can’t wait to cycle in Japan! I don’t know when it’s going to happen but it will happen!

Just Posting

I have survived.

The first week of school was anything but easy and “chill” as I would have presumed it would be. Physics 2 is definitely not a class to joke around with – I got a wakeup call when the professor spent almost 45 minutes for a single problem on net forces on a point charge from multiple surrounding point charges. Here, take 2 of these and call me in the morning. My exercise physio lab professor could be dubbed a hottie but she’s so stern. Stern woman scare the crap outta me. She definitely wears the pants in our class. But that’s about it with the professors who actually intimidate me. The “Most Boring” award (yeah, clever title) goes to my Ethics in Medicine professor. I honestly thought I was a narcoleptic because I woke up numerous times not knowing that I knocked out. If you’ve watched Jimmy Neutron, she sounded just like the teacher in the show, Ms. Fowl. Yup, I’m going to CR/NC this class.

Last night we had game night at the girls’ house. It was the homie Kevin’s 22nd birthday also (Shout out to Kevin!). He’s doing some big thangs in the lighting industry, beasting all kinds of venues with some $80,000 lighting equipment (Scroll down to see the crazy lights he works with). Wrapped the night out by skipping through half the movie of Zombieland so we can watch Bill Murray’s scene haha. He’s got to be one of my favorite actors along with Tom Hanks (The Terminal/Forrest Gump), Leo DiCaprio (Gangs of New York/Catch me If You Can), Steve Martin (The Three Amigos/Pink Panther), and Jack Black (Nacho Libre). Speaking of movie actors, I need get my bike fixed. As you may know (those of you who read the other posts), my crank arm fell off due to a faulty crank bolt. I’ll let you know when she’s back on the road again. She’s being taken care of by the homegirl, Erica. (Sorry! I’ll pick my bike up this weekend! Found out I have work today.)

I don’t know how often I’ll be able to write new posts as the semester starts picking up, but I’ll try. We all need something to procrastinate to, yeah?

Have a _____ day!

A little procrastination can go a long way. Check these out!

Dwight’s blog. LOL

“Obi Kenobi” hahaha

From the movie “Boy”. One of  my favorite movies. It’s like a New Zealand Nacho Libre, kinda. This is just the extra clip in the flick.

“Showgun”. $80,000! DEEEEEYYUUUM!

School Daze

First day of ’10 Fall Semester.

Taking some classes that are intense (no, they aren’t camping classes [in-tents, get it?]). I was so glad that it was only the first day of school because all my professors let us out within 20 minutes, since it was all just going over the syllabus. There was one professor that attempted to scare us by saying how difficult the class is and that the lab should be 3 units worth instead of it being only 1 unit. I think that is the lamest move a professor can pull to his/her students. Why would you start off the semester like that?? Despite his scare tactics causing fear in some of the young guns (yeah, I’m a 5th year wassup), I was unscathed. I’m about to Braveheart this shit. All my classes this semester have at least 2 of my buddies so I think I’m going to enjoy it. Plus, study sesh’s are gonna be even better whereas in the past I’ve partnered with fools that screw me over on purpose to get ahead. Lames-o’s.

After I got out of school that day, we cycled out to Ocean Beach. Oh yeah, did I mention it was frikkin 90 degrees in SF?! On the way to Ocean Beach via the PCH, my left crank arm flew off as I was cycling. Now I dont know if you know what that means, but what I was basically doing was trying to slow down with just my right pedal on the frikkin PCH. The crank bolt flew off some how and so now I am bike-less… I was lucky I didn’t fall and have someone’s front license plate stamped on my forehead. I ended up trying to cycle with my left crank arm in my hand and pedaling with just my right leg. Don’t do it. Eventually, I successfully met up with the homies Brett, Kyle, Erica, and Berna. There were literally hundreds of people at the beach that day. Played monkey Berna in the middle with the frisbee for a little then gave up when she couldn’t get the frisbee for like 4329840 minutes. Walked on over to Erica’s new apartment that’s just 2 blocks away from the beach to play some Apples to Apples and Pictionary Man to kill some time before we went out to grab-grub (YES! refer to Tekking It Eeseh) at Kevin’s Noodle House 2 on 1833 Irving Street. Gina and her homegirl Keira (Momo) met up with us at the pho joint. Shout out to Keira =) [ =)))))))) haha ]. During dinner, we decided to meet up with the other homies Rachel and Jennifer AKA Monica-for-the-night at Genki’s at 330 Clement Street. Special appearance made by Nam was there too. Dude’s moving out to the Big Apple to do Bigger thangs (Good luck Nam!). I think we all got pumped because we love school so much, that we decided to mob down to Buckshot ( 3848 Geary Blvd. ). Keep in mind this is the first night of a school day and my longest day of classes was the very next day hahaha. Yeah, we did a little ragin’. A mini rage. Fun day all together.

This is my camping schedule:

can’t stop listening to this. such a fresh sound.

hahahahaha!

This is how I felt when my crankarm fell off. (couldn\’t find a video)

All Summer, Drinkin’ Water, Trying to Keep Dry

It’s official.

Summer has come to an end and school mode has kicked into full gear. Did some heavy duty back-to-school shopping at Target and the SFSU Bookstore…spent more than I should’ve given the fact that USED textbooks should be priced wayyyyy lower than at $126.97. Maybe I should become a professor at some university and make my students buy a book that I wrote. And change the title every year so that it can be a “newer” edition, making them buy a new copy of my book. Yeahhhh, that sounds like a good way to get my 401k started. I kid, I kid haha. Gotta keep this post short and sweet so I can catch some sleep. Goodluck to all those starting school tomorrow. If you’re like me, finish this last year of school strong. Have fun along the way though, of course! OK, gotta get my first day of school outfit ready…

let’s rock.

4 a.m. Summer Nights

Whatta weekend.

Went to the homie Matt’s ( mattyice.tumblr.com/ ) to play some a lot of BP. Doesn’t it suck when you plan on chilling on like 2 brews, but you somehow go against your better judgement and join in on the fun? I think if it were with other people, I would’ve been able to just decline the back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back -to-back games. But when you’re with the homies that you grew up with, it’s best to bring a spare liver. We all know how this story goes. And this was the reason why I couldn’t wake up the next morning and bring myself to play in the “Parent’s Game” for the last day our homestay was in America. No worries though, I was able to stop by at the farewell banquet (got some BOMB bbq ribs & chicken) that night before hitting up Fu’s Palace for the homie Justin Hays’ surprise birthday party.

Fu’s Palace ( 8751 W. Pico Blvd. ) was not the venue I expected in being. In my head when I heard of this place, I thought it was like a lounge. We rolled up to it and started cracking up because it was straight up a corner Chinese restaurant. I felt like I was on the set of Rush Hour. I got to see almost everybody from Torrance that night, which was really dope. You put awesome company together with cheap drinks, you got yourself one helluva party! Justin was brought in and the whole surprise went downnnnn. I actually think he was surprised by Jun’s beach bucket-sized flash haha. If anybody was wondering, the cupcakes at Fu’s was made by my mama (from scratch, with love) so if anybody’s interested in buying a dozen or more, hit me up about it! =)

Gotta hit the road on back up SF for my (hopefully) last year of undergrad.

Shout out to my fam, Chris S., Peter, J.Hays, Matt, Jun, Bryan, Jake, Christine, Woo, Mel, Stace, Kristin, Kari, Rubin, Kyle, Daryl, Bree, Bran, Dev, Jodi, Drew, Jason, An, Koichi, Lowell, Ash, Deemer, Jeff, and all those who(m) I regretfully forgot to mention. Thanks for a cool summer! Til then…

life is goooood.

Let’s Do Battle!

Disneyland. Where to begin…
As a little kid, it was the most fun place to go to (a notch above Chuck e’ Cheese’s). Growing up into my middle school years, it was always fun to go with your group of friends. And in high school? Well, Disneyland was known as THE place to take your girlfriend to. I haven’t gone to Disneyland since high school so I was kind of excited, yet I knew I was going with a big-ass tour group so it was going to be kind of hectic. For some reason, I did not get on ANY rides at Disneyland that entire day. The only line I stood in was for food at Pizza Port in Tomorrow Land haha. My wait in line for food was just as long as the wait to go on Autopia. I wish they had a fast pass for food.

Standing in line for food wasn’t all that bad only because they had a Jedi Training show going on, where little kids from the audience can go on stage to wield lightsabers and fight either against Dart Maul or Darth Vader. I, personally, would choose to fight Darth Vader. Then this one particular Jedi chick caught my eye. I don’t know what her stage name was, but for all I know it could’ve been Beut Efulize. Hahaha whatta ugly first name. It was funny because everytime I would put my camera up to take a photo, she would hesitantly look up to my direction as if she were thinking “dammit, shoot me nowwwww. Why do I do thissss? I hope it doesn’t get posted onto facebooooook. Or even worse, on Takuma’s blooooogggg.” Laughing Out Loud. I really don’t know what she was thinking but she did look up everytime I took a photo. She shouldn’t care what others think – shoot, I would LOVE to be paid to wield a lightsaber around. Give me a blue one, let’s do battle! By the way, I think this is why I love Olivia Munn because she wouldn’t care to dress up as a Jedi and starting battling fools on the street hahahaha!

So after I ate my not-worth-the-40-minute-line food, the group headed to California Adventure. We got our World of Color Picnic Dinners that tasted strangely similar to JAL’s airplane food and chilled for a bit in the shade. Just to add in, I do not miss this whole socal weather all too much – it’s too effing hot. As we were eating, a group of weird fools started dancing to some Brazilian-techno mambajamba. Not gonna lie, they need to pull that show out because it was just annoying haha. Hit up the World of Color show and to my surprise, it kind of lived up to it’s hype. I wish I had a steezy camera like Mr. Johnny (his camera literally looks like an RPG but it’s just his Nikon D3). I wish I could write more but I have to start on the next day of fun-filled adventures.

Stay classy, my friends. Drink a Dos Equis.

I can’t believe I missed Far East Movement’s concert at Ruby Skye… I would rather watch them for an hour than spend 14 hours at Disneyland. They’re on a world tour with Lady Gaga, hitting up OSAKA, JAPAN!!! ( http://www.fareastmovement.com/st/ )

a-a-a-a-a-a-a-animal!

check out Ktown cowboys. funny funny.

YokoSoCo

The day started early with my family and I driving to LA for our homestay, Yuuya’s, first basketball game in this glorious country we know as the United States of America. The gym location was at Roybal Learning Center off of 1st Street; a multi-million dollar construction for this learning center (yes, it can fit normal-sized people unlike Zoolander’s Center for Kids Who Can’t Read Good and Wanna Learn to Do Other Stuff Good), which was not passed as being a high school or community college because it was built on top of a landfill. My shins and toes are glowing as you read this. So Yuuya and his Kochi, Japan basketball team played against the CBO All-Stars resulting in a 11 point loss. USA – 1, Japan – 0. I’m just messin’, I don’t keep score of wins-losses unless I’m playing. Right after the Boys played, the Girls team from Kochi played against the JAO All-Stars resulting in a 9 point loss. USA – 2, Japan – 0.

Between the boys’ & girls’ game, I decided to hit up Stussy LA since it wasn’t too far from where we were. I don’t know why, but for some reason I feel like I’m a walking failzors because when I got to Stussy, it was closed for remodeling or something. I was sad. Since I was already on La Brea, I decided to hit up UNDFTD LA (112 S. La Brea Ave.) and Union (110 S. La Brea Ave.). I miss walking into actual brand ’boutique’ stores because they fancy my taste in fashion. Malls SUCK!! Despite there being other shops open other than Stussy, they didn’t have much on deck. Makes sense since it’s kinda the end of the summer season and going into fall. Oh yeah, I’d suggest you hit up Barracuda (7769 Melrose Ave.) if La Brea owned you up, too.

Went back to Roybal to grab-grub (YES!) and chill until we all migrated to Nishi Buddhist Church for the Yonsei welcome party. We were introduced to the Sakawa city homestays there (so now we have 2 Japan dudes staying over) and had a nice presentation by the founders of the Yonsei Basketball Organization, Frank Kiyomura & Ken Mukai. I thought it was dope since I was part of the organization (Shout out to the Y9ers!). Highlight of this welcome party was the open bar. When I ordered a Henny & Coke, the tender told me I can fix the drink up myself. Score. All the parents and coaches from Japan were merry with either Asahi or their new favorite, Newcastle, in hand while trying so hard to speak Engrish with the American families. I really like how Japanese people always initiate communication because they always approach you with the biggest smiles & smallest eyes. With a beeru in hand. Rewind just a little bit, the food at the welcome party was BOMB! Cherrystones catered to the event so we had primo entrees served. My mouth collapased in itself like a dying star turning into a blackhole after I ate the honey-pineapple chicken. I seriously couldn’t stop eating that chicken! Yup, I had to mention that little detail.

Go outside, it’s nice out. Have a beautiful day.

Show me, SHO-YU! KIKKO-PUNCH!!

The center has to be at least…3 times bigger than this!

freddie joachim is great.

nujabes is greater.
